June 16 1976 is a very important day in South Africa’s history. The imperative nature of the day lingers in all of South African’s hearts. Names like Tsietsi Mashinini and Hector Peterson emanate from any conversation that sparks about the unforgettable day.

36 years later we have a posse of 16 MC’s detail their opinion and commemorate this legendary day in 16 bars each. Below is the full list and a little resume of each.

Vocalist of note. Appears on Reason’s album Audio 3D on the track “A lot on my mind”

Thir{13}teen

Rapper/ producer. Produced for Proverb and rumoured to be part of the production credits for N’veigh’s album

Tehndiamond

Harare bred rapper/ singer/ songwriter

Naked Eye

Golden Shovel

Legendary wordsmith part of the Optical Illusion clique.  Had a verse in the unfathomable classic “Heavy 8”

L-Tido

SAMA nominee for “All or Nothing” album. He is one quarter of Glitz Gang

Nthabi

A respected female MC who graced multiple Hype magazine compilations. Had the banging song “Breathe”

Solomon BFG

The BFG means Big Fukn Gun. Formely known as K-Blaq from the group Mikrophonic Tungs

Youngsta CPT

Cape Town’s MC who dropped “What have you done my brother” featuring Tumi and Reason

Mista Maliq

Cap City representer, part of W3K (When We Were Kings) with Flex Boogie and is featured on the currently high rotation “You Can Have It” by Trompie

King Perfecto

Motif Records signing, opened for Reason at the #A3D Launch. Had the song “What is a Perfecto” on the soundtrack of the movie Otelo Burning

Reason
